Will PermaLife Mulch™ attract Insects?

NO.  PermaLife Mulch™ products will not attract termites or insects like other mulches.  In fact, PermaLife Mulch™ deters mosquito nesting because rubber mulch remains dry on top. In addition, boring insects like termites cannot penetrate PermaLife Mulch™.

What do I do after 5 Years?

Although your mulch will last long after the warranty period, if you start to see some fading of the color, we suggest a re-application of 1/4-1/2 of your original order to freshen up the look of your landscape.

Why is PermaLife SoftStuff™ superior to other rubber play surface products on the market?

PermaLife SoftStuff is smaller in size than most other playground materials on the market. Manufacturing SoftStuff in a smaller size allows us to apply a more rigorous refining process. This process assures the safety of SoftStuff™ by including a series of separating and magnetic processes designed to remove the maximum amount of exposed steel and fiber from the product.  SoftStuff™ is  ADA Compliant.

How safe is PermaLife SoftStuff™?

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and numerous state and private agencies determined that shredded tire rubber chips have consistently outperformed all other surface materials in impact absorption and surface attenuation. PermaLife SoftStuff™ has been extensively tested and the results show a safety factor for a fall of 12' feet with a 6"inch application and a safety factor for a fall of 8' feet  with a 4" inch application.

Is PermaLife SoftStuff™ Toxic?
No. PermaLife SoftStuff™ is non-toxic and is colored with a non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and HAPS-free coating. In the event of accidental ingestion, the product will simply pass through the digestive tract of humans or animals.

How should I install PermaLife SoftStuff™?
PermaLife SoftStuff™ will be delivered in bulk. Just remove all existing material and bring the site to grade. Install a landscape fabric (recommend as a vapor barrier). Then distribute and level the material with a garden rake or flat shovel. Install at required depth to provide the best  in impact absorption. For optimal safety, install a 6"inch application for a fall factor of 12'  feet and a 4" inch application for a fall of 8' feet.

No. Because PermaLife SoftStuff™ is manufactured from 100% recycled tire rubber. The expected resilient life of the product is 25+ years.

Isn’t black tire rubber just as good?
No. PermaLife SoftStuff™ is clean, and coated with a unique, uv-stable, polyurethane-based colorant that dissipates heat better (based on color) and is abrasion-resistant.

Will PermaLife SoftStuff™ blow or wash away?
No. PermaLife SoftStuff™ will not float because the density of the product is much greater than wood chips or wood mulch. Because of the density and the migration properties of rubber, PermaLife remains in place when it is windy or raining.

Does the color fade or wear off?
No. PermaLife SoftStuff™ color will not fade. There will always be some small loss of color that is undetectable to the eye . The color is warranted for five years against a complete color loss.

Does PermaLife SoftStuff™ Attract animals?
No. The texture of the product has proven to be disliked by animals and rodents. Therefore, animals will not nest or root  in the product.

Isn’t PermaLife SoftStuff™ dirty?
No. Unlike wood chips, sand and black tire rubber, PermaLife SoftStuff™ is color processed which seals the rubber. There is no grind residue and the rubber won’t oxidize (chalk) because the colors are UV stable.  Also, you can play in PermaLife SoftStuff™ in the rain or shortly after rainfall because PermaLife SoftStuff™ does not absorb water like wood.

No. Unlike organic materials, PermaLife SoftStuff™  will not stain clothes or cement.

How much maintenance will PermaLife SoftStuff™ require?
Very little. When installed correctly weed growth will be suppressed. An occasional raking or dragging to bring to level and to remove large debris is recommended. Additionally, because of its density a blower can be used to remove additional debris such as leaves in the Fall.

No. You may notice a minimal odor at time of installation, but the odor disappears quickly after installation.

Is PermaLife SoftStuff™ Flammable?
No, under the Federal Hazardous Substance Act (16CFR.1500.44) PermaLife SoftStuff™ is considered a non-flammable product. The product has been extensively tested as Non-Flammable by independent testing labs.

Does PermaLife SoftStuff™ Freeze in the Winter?
No. PermaLife SoftStuff™ is hydrophobic (meaning it does not absorb water) and therefore will not freeze in the winter. In addition, the density (weight) of the product provides geothermal properties, which insulate the soil keeping it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

If PermaLife SoftStuff™ find its way into my washer or dryer will it stain or melt onto the clothes?
No. The color won’t wash off and it will not stain.  Rubber begins to degrade at an excess of 500°F; clothes dryers only reach approximately 100°F.

What are the advantages of PermaLife SportsFill™?

A rubber in-fill feels and reacts more like a natural turf soil base. It can't over-compact like sand so the G-Max won't change dramatically. Rubber isn't porous like sand so it won't absorb odorous contaminants (fungus, algae, bacteria, urine, blood, saliva, excrement, etc.). Additionally, rubber isn't abrasive like sand --many sand/rubber infill systems use over 50% sand in their product -- some use up to 80%! The sand gets in the players' eyes, cuts the artificial surface, stratifies to the bottom of the system and clogs drainage.
